Appearance
Clear pale straw with some golden hues.
Nose
Honey, peaches and apricots. Some hints of rose, lime, and tropical fruit. Slight underlying trace of an oily chemical smell.
Palate
Medium bodied, with a reasonably crisp citric acidity for a Torrontés. Some lactic creaminess. More stone fruit than tropical fruit, a light white-pepper spiciness, with a faint but lingering chemical aftertaste.
Overall
Winemaker Susana Balbo is deservedly a legend in Argentine wine-making, but it's fair to say this is not her best work. The Crios range are designed for early drinking, and aim to present great fruit character. This Torrontés, while slightly atypical in terms of its fruit - being somewhat more suggestive of a Chardonnay-Semillon blend - is nevertheless perfectly pleasant, so long as you can ignore the chemical aftertaste. Poor value compared to other Torrontés on the market.
