Fabre Montmayou Malbec 2003
Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza
Deep, dense ruby tending to violet.
Restrained, with some plums, black cherries, and a slight touch of vanilla.
Medium-bodied, with a round, spicy mouth-feel. Very fruity, with plums, cherries and redcurrants balanced by good acidity and nice dry tannins. Subtle vanilla notes hint at some oak treatment, and there is also a slight, fresh river-stone minerality.
Finely crafted, and delicately balanced Malbec. It's not big in style, even though it packs plenty of fruit and a high 14.5% alcohol. Rather, it is round, fruity but pleasantly fresh and dry. Very well worth-while and fair value at AR$30.
