Santa Julia Sangiovese 2005
Ruby red with purple tones.
Spicy cherries, strawberries, and raspberries.
Medium-bodied, packed with black cherries, plums, and strawberries. The 13% alcohol is pleasantly warming, and combines with generous but gentle tannins and moderate acidity to fill the mouth and give the wine impressive length. Spicy back pepper and sweet vanilla on the back palate.
This Sangiovese has a pleasantly soft, round body. The fruit characters are juicy rather than intense, but there is enough tannin and acidity to keep the wine interesting. Very good drinking, and would be a great match for an antipasto plate of salami, olives, artichoke hearts and pickled capsicums.
