Santa Julia Tempranillo 2005
Uniform deep ruby red.
Somewhat closed. Redcurrants, plums, a hint of vanilla.
Sweet red fruit and juicy plums, with some toasty oak notes on the front palate, but fairly thin initial mouth feel. Develops in the mid palate as acids and some light tannins become apparent, leading into a surprisingly lingering finish with some vanilla and toast notes.
A straightforward but well-balanced wine. Some pleasant oaky notes but lacking in complexity. The fruit lacks depth and intensity but with the alcohol content held at 13.0% it is never overpowered. Rather, the acid and tannic framing of the ripe fruit makes for a fairly satisfying glass and good value.
